Man United chairman to quit

Man United’s chairman Roy Gardner yesterday announced his impending resignation from the board and warned that Malcolm Glazer has failed to provide any assurances over future debt, ticket prices, player transfers and non-interference with team selection.

In a letter to shareholders, Gardner recommended accepting the offer for their shares from Glazer - but only on financial grounds.

The chairman also confirmed he and fellow non-executive directors Ian Much and Jim O’Neill are “expected to resign from the board shortly”.
