Portsmouth escape action over Redknapp’s switch

PORTSMOUTH will not face action from the Premier League for their alleged illegal approach to bring Harry Redknapp back to Fratton Park from rivals Southampton.

While at St Mary’s, Redknapp was initially refused permission to speak to Pompey about filling their managerial vacancy; then he left the club after feeling his position was untenable.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe questioned Portsmouth’s, with Pompey opposite number Milan Mandaric denying any wrongdoing.

However, the Premier League gathered further evidence and have now decided not to take any action against Pompey.

The brittle relationship between the two chairman deteriorated further when Mandaric sent Lowe a duck as a Christmas present. Mandaric was annoyed when Lowe apparently spent a day duck shooting when the Pompey chairman was desperate to conclude negotiations over the compensation package for Redknapp’s services.

Pompey are still in relegation trouble despite a promising start to Redknapp’s second spell.
