Gill: United will compete in market
In a thinly veiled reference to money-bags Chelsea and the £89 million (€135 million) the Londoners have spent in the close season, chief executive Gill was defiant.
Although Gill discounted any move for Wayne Rooney at the reported £30m-plus price tag, he insisted that United had the financial muscle to compete for the best players.
Gill said: “We may not be top kings any more but we are nearly there when it comes to money. If you look at it, we can compete aggressively and sensibly in the transfer market and will continue to do so.”
