Captaincy keeps Vieira cool

Patrick Vieira says his responsibilities as Arsenal captain will help him to keep a cool head in next week’s clash with Manchester United.

The Frenchman was sent off against United last season after a clash with Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Vieira said: “I have been sent off only once since I became captain and that was in an altercation that still leaves a fairly bitter taste.

“But being captain gives me a lot more responsibilities in relation to my team mates. I owe it to myself to show a certain example.”
