Rooney’s 18th birthday bash worries Moyes
Rooney turns 18 on Friday, with the bash at Aintree Racecourse planned for next week and with Robbie Williams and Atomic Kitten apparently on the guest list.
Moyes has gone to great lengths to protect Rooney from the media spotlight which has focused on the teenage striker since he burst onto the scene last season.
It is no wonder Moyes has voiced his concerns at the attention which will be lavished on Rooney: “I don’t think he needs this.
“It wouldn’t be the advice he would get from me. I disagree with his people on this occasion. It smells too much of publicity.
“The thing that comes to my mind is trying to remember David Beckham’s 18th birthday party or Ryan Giggs’. Can you? No. Exactly.”
Moyes, meanwhile, welcomes back Richard Wright from injury tomorrow, with the goalkeeper due to play in a reserve game at Birmingham.
Wright has spent almost six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury initially sustained in a clash with Charlton in August.
The 25-year-old’s place has since been taken by Nigel Martyn and could prove hard to win back as the 37-year-old has kept three clean sheets in the five games in which he has played.
