PSV march safely through
Taking a 1-0 lead into the match from the first leg, the Dutch league leaders withstood a frenetic opening 20 minutes by an all-attacking Monaco, and after shoring up their defence came out deserved winners after goals by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and American Damarcus Beasley.
The Dutch side got the first goal when tall striker Vennegoor of Hesselink powered through the penalty box unmarked to head an excellent Mark Van Bommel cross home in the 27th minute.
After the break PSV, looking increasingly confident at the back, swamped Monaco's attack, and 10 minutes into the second half countered from the edge of their own box through Park, whose cross Van Bommel scuffed into the arms of keeper Flavio Roma.
PSV's second goal came in the 69th minute, Beasley on as a replacement for Vennegoor for just two minutes knocking home a low cross from veteran Phillip Cocu after some smart footwork by Park.
The Dutch side could have had a third goal moments later but Monaco defender Gael Givet cynically hacked down the advancing Peruvian striker Jefferson Farfanand was promptly shown the red card.
