The Scotland defender was substituted in the first half of Hearts’ 2-0 win over Hibernian with a thigh strain and will now miss the return match against the French side at Tynecastle on Thursday.

Levein said: “We’ve lost Steven so it’s not been ideal preparation for the game against Bordeaux.

“He’s got a thigh strain and he’s 99.9% certain to miss Thursday’s game.”

Levein was unconcerned that it took own goals by Hibs defenders Alen Orman and Gary Smith to give them the three points. He claimed his side deserved the win.
