RUUD VAN NISTELROOY believes Manchester United overcame an obstacle far more significant than West Brom after their comprehensive 3-1 win at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

United's victory moved them temporarily to within two points of Premiership leaders Arsenal and shunted the Baggies to bottom.

Perhaps most importantly it secured United only their third win of a troubled campaign on the road which until Saturday had been their worst since the Premiership began.
