2027 Rugby World Cup draw: Ireland face Scotland, Uruguay, and Portugal

Ireland have been drawn to face Scotland, Uruguay, and Portugal in the pool stage at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
It will be the the third consecutive World Cup at which Ireland have faced Scotland in the pool stage.
If Ireland manage to win Pool D, they will face a third-placed team from Pool B, E or F in the round of 16. Should they win that, and progress to the quarter-final, they would play the victor of the round of 16 clash between the Pool C winner (possibly Argentina) and a third-placed team from Pool A, E, or F.

The 2027 tournament has been expanded to 24 team from 20 at the 2023 competition in France. Teams are divided into six pools with four nations in each. The top two in each group plus the top four third-placed teams progress to the round of 16.
The 24 competing nations are comprised to 12 who qualified automatically via their finishes at the 2023 tournament and 12 who qualified this year.Â

Ireland avoided many of the world's best teams by being one of the top seeded nations - due to their world ranking - along with South Africa, New Zealand, England, France and Argentina.
The 11th Rugby World Cup kicks off on October 1, 2027 with the final taking place on November 13.Â
