He may only have been Munster head coach a wet week but Clayton McMillan understands what his new province’s rivalry with Leinster means to supporters as the focus turns to his first URC derby up at Croke Park next Saturday.

Ending a four-match losing streak to the reigning URC champions would be a good way to cement the early progress he has made since leaving Super Rugby’s Chiefs this summer and moving his family from their native New Zealand to the other side of the world. Yet McMillan is fully cognisant it is a deeper divide between the rivals that he has been appointed to bridge.
