Maybe someone somewhere will remind Peter O’Mahony about something America’s greatest showman said on the subject of when to call it quits: "Always leave them wanting more…" Phineas T Barnum’s take on the perfect time to retire has stood the test of time since the middle of the 19th century and yet such a pearl of wisdom can never have sounded more relevant than it is right now to Ireland’s supreme rugby warrior.
Raising the Six Nations trophy towards the heavens in Dublin on St Patrick’s weekend as a final act is one way of leaving those all over the country and untold millions on distant shores wanting more. Short of winning the next World Cup in 2027, what could be better than that?
