Munchins stand between Pres and repeat Munster Senior Schools Cup final with Christians
STANDING TALL: St Munchin's College are ready to take on Presentation Brothers College in the semi-finals.
Christians Brothers College have done their job in attempting to set up an all-Cork Munster Senior Schools Cup final for the second year in a row and now it’s over to their arch-rivals Presentation Brothers College to confirm it.
CBC secured their return to the showpiece occasion thanks to an impressive 18-8 victory over Crescent College Comprehensive at Virgin Media Park on Tuesday afternoon.
And on Wednesday afternoon (kick off is at 2pm) Pres – the current champions – will have the opportunity to again seal their place in the competition’s finale.
But standing in their way and eager to reach the final for the first time since 2012 will be a determined St Munchin’s side.
PBC have enjoyed a more straight-forward journey to this semi-final as they advanced directly to the last four thanks to their 14-3 Round 2 victory over Crescent College Comprehensive.
St Munchin’s College were forced to take the more scenic route to the semis as after they were defeated by the aforementioned finalists CBC 15-5 in the other semi-final qualifier.
That meant the Limerick school had to face Bandon Grammar School in the quarter-final earlier this month where they prevailed with an emphatic 34-17 scoreline.
This will be the second meeting between these two schools this campaign and it was PBC who emerged victorious en route to winning Group A of the preliminary stage following their 35-14 triumph over Munchin’s in Wilton at the end of November.
The Irish Examiner will have live streaming coverage of this the second Munster Schools Boys Senior Cup semi-final.
