Tadhg Beirne’s frustration at Munster's final-quarter collapse at home to Northampton Saints was thrown into sharp focus when the two sides were thrown together for the Investec Champions Cup Round of 16 on Sunday night.
Northampton sealed top spot in Pool 3 on Saturday night as they came from 20-10 down to win 26-23 and claim their first victory at Thomond Park on their fifth visit to Limerick. Munster’s losing bonus point sent them into the last 16 with a fourth-placed pool finish and as the dust settled on the final round of pool games 24 hours later, their dubious reward is a trip to play the current English Premiership leaders at Franklin’s Gardens in April.
