Tom Ahern would have been quite happy with his lot without this week’s invitation to join Andy Farrell’s Six Nations squad on a plane to Portugal next Wednesday.

After a 2022-23 season cut short after just three games by a shoulder injury, the 23-year-old lock/flanker has been making up for lost time in the current campaign, featuring in all 12 of Munster’s games to date and starting eight of them either in the second row or at number six.
