Australian rugby legend Matt Giteau has announced his return to rugby for the 2024 Major League Rugby (MLR) season.

41-year-old out-half Giteau has signed for the San Diego Legion, having previously turned out for the LA Giltinis prior to the club's 2022 folding.

Giteau - who announced his retirement in February of this year -  won 103 caps and played in three World Cup for the Wallabies, reaching the final in the 2015 edition, which ended in defeat to old rivals New Zealand.

He enjoyed great success across the club game, winning silverware in France with Toulon, as well as in Japan, Australia and most recently in America.

"We are over the moon to secure Matt's services for the upcoming season," San Diego coach Danny Lee said.

"He is a world-class player who will bring an incredible wealth of knowledge, a competitive attitude, and a drive to succeed with him that will no doubt spread throughout the squad."
