Munster prepared for added challenge of Glasgow’s artificial pitch

Munster will be targeting a return to the top-five of the Guinness Pro12 table tonight as they travel to face defending champions the Glasgow Warriors.

The game has been switched to the all-weather surface at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock, with Glasgow’s Scotstoun Stadium still waterlogged.

Munster assistant coach Ian Costello believes Munster will be ready for the challenge, although he knows that it's still likely to suit the home side.

Rugby Park plays host to both Kilmarnock soccer and Glasgow rugby matches.

“We have a 4G (pitch) in UL so we’ve trained on it and with the weather conditions over the last while, by default, we’ve ended up doing a lot of our sessions on 4G,” said Costello.

“The reality is that it’s a quick pitch, the ball stays in play a long time, it doesn’t bounce as much and that would be something that I’m sure Glasgow would be really excited about.

“They love to keep the ball alive, they love to offload, they’ve a huge continuity game and they change the point of attack really well.”
