The biggest news from Ireland's injury update this morning is that Peter O’Mahony’s World Cup is at an end.

The Munster flanker joins Jared Payne on the sidelines having been ruled out of any further participation with a knee ligament ijnury.

His is just one of a litany of injuries after a brutal, hard-fought 24-9 win over France last night.

Paul O’Connell is described as very sore, but has not been definitively ruled out as yet. He will undergo scans later today on his hamstring.

There is more positive news on Johnny Sexton. Initial assessment suggests his groin injury is not as serious as first feared, although the medics will not say yet if he could be available for next weekend’s quarter-final against Argentina.

A replacement for Jared Payne, who was ruled out on Saturday, is expected to be announced later today.

The Ireland camp have yet to hear anything about a possible citing for Sean O'Brien after he was caught on camera appearing to punch a French player. The citing officer has 36 hours to make a decision.
