WATCH: Jamie Heaslip: ‘Support has been amazing’ and a ‘humbling experience’

Jamie Heaslip saluted the incredible support of the Irish fans when interviewed moments after Ireland’s 44-10 victory against Romania.

The match between the two had the biggest ever Rugby crowd for a Rugby World Cup match, surpassing last weekend's record attendance of 89,019 for New Zealand v Argentina at Wembley Stadium.

Heaslip and the interviewer struggled to hear each other on the pitch over the noise of tens of thousands of jubilant Irish fans.

As you can here the support here has been pretty amazing,” he said. “They have helped us get the win today.”

“To have this 90,000 seater stadium filled out with Irish people has been a humbling experience.

“We hope this sea of green keeps flooding in.”

Ireland’s number eight also paid tribute to their competitors, saying: “Romania made us work for it definitely, we were really glad to come away with the win.”

Shaun Cronin, head sports reporter of breakingnews.ie spoke to the Irish Examiner's rugby correspondent Simon Lewis after the game.
