Ireland name team for 3rd place decider

The IRFU have announced the team that will play France to decide third and fourth place in the women’s rugby World Cup.

The Irish side lost out to England in the semi-final on Wednesday and are anxious to finish the tournament on a high.

There have been two changes made to the side that played England, with Jenny Murphy making her first start of the tournament. She has been named at inside centre with Grace Davitt moving to outside centre.

In the back row, Siobhan Fleming starts at blindside and Paula Fitzpatrick moves to number eight.

Head coach Philip Doyle is determined that the disappointing result against England doesn’t overshadow an excellent tournament for the team, which included the historic victory over champions New Zealand.

“It has been a fantastic World Cup for women's rugby in Ireland,” said Doyle, “and ideally we will finish it off with a winning performance”.

The match kicks off at 3.30pm Irish time and will be shown live on TG4.
