Healy: We must not be caught off guard by Connacht

Leinster’s Cian Healy has warned that his side must not go into their Rabo Direct Pro 12 game with Connacht this weekend with any form of arrogance or complacency.

They face their second home game in a row following their Heineken Cup round two win over Castres last weekend, a result which saw the former three time cup winners claim two wins from two.

Connacht meanwhile, have been preparing for this game in good spirits too after their Heineken Cup win last weekend, albeit against Italian minnows Zebre in Italy.

Pat Lam's side have only one Pro 12 victory since the season started and that was also against Zebre at the Sportsground.

Healy said: “It’s a positive place to be coming into the game with those two wins, but at the same time you can be caught off guard when you have that behind you so it’s something we are not resting on.

“We have chatted about it at meetings and we know we have to stay switched on.”

As impressive a start as it was for Leinster in the Heineken Cup, Castres opened up a big talking point as they seem to have exposed a big weakness in the Leinster scrum area, but Healy insists that it’s not something to look into.

“It’s early days and we are still plugging away at the scrum and line-out, pushing at the right time and jumping in the right place, to be honest if we were a finished product, there would be a problem.”

Healy says there is still a lot to get used to in the new 'crouch – bind – set' scrum law.

According to the new laws, the number 9 can only put the ball in, once the referee is happy the scrum is square and unlikely to pop up or collapse, the ref will then call ‘Yes 9’

“There’s a lot of changes there at scrum time, there’s a lot of different calls from refs time wise so were getting used to it –

Clearly we’re training with it but you can never simulate enough as hearing it from a ref so it’s just getting used to the sequences.”
