Best in Ulster squad for Connacht derby

Rory Best is in line to make his first appearance of the season after being named in Mark Anscombe’s preliminary squad for Friday’s derby meeting with Connacht at Ravenhill (7.05pm).

The Ireland hooker has not played since the Test match against New Zealand on June 23.

His absence has seen Nigel Brady enjoy plenty of first team action but Brady isn’t included in this weekend’s squad with Rob Herring providing the other option at hooker.

Captain Johann Muller is included after overcoming the niggling injuries which ruled him out of the excellent win over Cardiff last Friday.

Ireland internationals Stephen Ferris and Declan Fitzpatrick also return to the extended 25 man squad.

Ulster will be looking to maintain their 100% record in the PRO12 this season, Anscombe’s team currently boast four wins from four games and sit on top of the league table.

But they will face a rejuvenated Connacht side fresh from last weekend’s stunning 34-6 victory over Leinster.

Provisional Ulster Squad:

Forwards:

Rob Herring, Rory Best, Declan Fitzpatrick, John Afoa, Tom Court, Callum Black, Johann Muller, Dan Tuohy, Lewis Stevenson, Stephen Ferris, Mike McComish, Iain Henderson, Chris Henry, Nick Williams.

Backs:

Paul Marshall, Michael Heaney, Niall O’Connor, Paddy Jackson, Paddy Wallace, Darren Cave, Luke Marshall, Andrew Trimble, Tommy Bowe, Craig Gilroy, Jared Payne.
