Jane and Kahui to miss Irish tests
All Blacks Corey Jane and Richard Kahui have both been ruled out of the June test series against Ireland after picking up injuries in Super 15 games.
Hurricanes winger Jane was forced to make an early exit from their meeting with the Brumbies on Friday after picking up an ankle injury.
The knock is expected to keep the winger sidelined for at least six weeks.
Kahui will definitely miss the three games against Declan Kidney’s men after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury while playing for the Chiefs.
The 26-year-old fell awkwardly in a tackle during the Chiefs 42-27 defeat to the Reds.
Chief’s coach, Dave Rennie sympathises with his centre, who would have looked to build on the good form he showed in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
“I feel for him because he’s a bloody top man, a big part of our leadership group and obviously the All Blacks were pretty keen on him playing there,” Rennie said.
“It’s disappointing for him, but knowing him he’ll still have a bit to say about what goes on from here in regard to what we do on the track and helping out the young fellas.
”Kahui, a centre by trade, operated predominantly on the wing during the World Cup, picking up four tries. Jane crossed the whitewash once in the tournament.
Crusaders winger Zac Guilford has taken Jane’s position in the All Black squad and believes he is deserving of his place.
“I knew if I worked hard, kept out of trouble and did the right things on the field then eventually it would come, and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity again,” the 23-year-old remarked.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has yet to reveal who will get called up to replace Kahui in the squad.
