With a host of first team players in New Zealand and an ever-growing injury list Joe Schmidt will be relieved he can call upon the experience and flare of Luke Fitzgerald for his sides meeting with Glasgow Warriors in the RDS on Saturday (6pm).
Fitzgerald takes his place at inside centre alongside Eoin O'Malley who moves to outside centre for the visit of Glasgow.
Fionn Carr and Ian Madigan - try-scorers in the 31-10 victory over the Dragons last weekend - continue in the backline with Madigan the only orthodox outhalf available to Schmidt with Matt Berquist ruled out through a broken knee cap.
In the pack, Leo Auva'a makes his first start for the province at number eight after appearing twice off the bench so far this season and he joins Dominic Ryan and skipper Rhys Ruddock in the back-row.
Damian Browne is named on the replacements bench alongside Leinster Academy back-rower Jordi Murphy and recent signing prop Nathan White who could both be in line for their debut appearances.
Despite boasting two wins from two games Tony McGahan has named five changes for the visit of the Scarlets to Musgrave Park on Saturday night (7.45pm).
Two of those changes are forced with the call up for Damien Varley to the RWC, the Limerick man began his journey to New Zealand last night meaning Mike Sherry is promoted from the bench.
Danny Barnes has a minor hand injury forcing him out of Saturday’s match though he is expected to feature against Cardiff Blues, his outside centre position will be filled by Tom Gleeson who featured as a replacement in last week’s win over Glasgow.
The familiar figure of Marcus Horan will take up residence in the front row alongside Sherry and John Hayes with Wian du Preez dropping to the bench where he will be in the company of BJ Botha.
The other change in the pack sees 23-year-old Dave Foley make his first competitive start at the expense of Billy Holland who is named among the replacements.
Try scorer last weekend Simon Zebo slips to the bench to make way for Denis Hurley, the man he replaced against Dragons in the League opener when Hurley picked up a slight hamstring injury.
