A scrappy 22-10 victory over a USA team with only four professional players was not part of the script for Ireland’s 2011 World Cup campaign but outhalf Jonathan Sexton doesn’t want to waste time reflecting on the past with massive games against Australia and Italy around the corner.

On arrival in New Zealand the line coming out of the Irish camp was that the four warm-up defeats should be dismissed as irrelevant in the context of the World Cup, it now seems the Group C opener has been added to this list.
