Lievremont shakes up line-up after Italy upset

Sebastien Chabal was one of six players dropped from the France squad tonight as coach Marc Lievremont held true to his promise of making changes following yesterday’s defeat to Italy.

Chabal, along with Jerome Thion, Yannick Jauzion, Clement Poitrenaud, Aurelien Rougerie and Sylvain Marconnet, have paid the price for Les Bleus’ below-par display in Rome and will not play against Wales in Paris on Saturday.

Lievremont said earlier today he would be making changes after revealing the full extent of his disgust at the performance in the 22-21 defeat to the Azzurri.

“Do I feel responsible for that? No, they betrayed us, they have betrayed me and they have betrayed the French national team shirt,” he told www.planetrugby.com.

“What is for sure is that certain players have worn the French shirt for the last time.

“Do you really think that I told them to play as they did against Italy? I was ashamed. I do not have the impression we asked them to walk on the moon – I do not ask for complicated things.

“They (the players) are lacking in courage. They are good guys, but cursed with what is obviously cowardice. They are not even capable of admitting to their own mistakes. Perhaps it is a trend among the new generation.”

Jerome Schuster, Pascal Pape, Alexandre Lapandry, Fabrice Estebanez, David Marty and Alexis Palisson have been called up.

The France squad to meet Wales is:

Forwards: Thomas Domingo, Jerome Schuster, Guilhem Guirado, Luc Ducalcon, William Servat, Nicolas Mas, Lionel Nallet, Julien Pierre, Pascal Pape, Thierry Dusautoir, Imanol Harinordoquy, Julien Bonnaire, Alexandre Lapandry.

Backs: Morgan Parra, Francois Trinh-Duc, Julien Tomas, Fabrice Estebanez, David Marty, Alexis Palisson, Damien Traille, Vincent Clerc, Maxime Medard.
