D’Arcy: Our success is not a 'fluke'
Ireland and Leinster centre Gordon D’Arcy has said that yesterday’s victory over world champions South Africa shows the mental strength of the Irish team.
After Brian O’Driscoll’s crunching tackle in the last few minutes just before D’Arcy’s try-saving tackle on Brian Habana, the Leinster back thinks Ireland has the ability to go on and achieve more.
D’Arcy said: “It’s not a fluke at this stage, I think you’ve got to give a bit of credit to the team.
“In pressure situations we haven’t panicked, we just do what we normally do in those pressure situations.
“I think that’s a sign of a good team. When the real pressure comes on they just do the right thing at the right time.
When asked about the mood in the dressing room afterwards, D’Arcy dispelled the myth that jubilant teams are dancing around celebrating their victory.
He said: “When you win a game like that, everybody is just sitting down with maybe a cup of tea in their hand.
“You’ve left everything on the field, once you have leave your heart and soul on the field like that you don’t need to be jumping around the place, high-fiving everyone. Sometimes a look is enough.”
