Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery has spoken in glowing terms of Australia captain Rocky Elsom, describing the former Leinster forward as “one of the best players I have ever played against”.

Flannery said: “A lot of the Leinster lads have said he is one of the best players they have ever played with.

“I think if you were to pick a world 15 in the morning, Rocky would be a shoo-in. The fact that he is captain of Australia now just shows what a good player he was last year.”

The Munster hooker also heaped praise on the Wallabies scrum saying it has improved immensely when compared to five years ago.

“I think they are one of the strongest scrums in world rugby at the moment. They have got a conveyor belt, they always have good guys coming in, people like Moore, Robinson the loose head. They are top players.”

Listen to more as Jerry Flannery talks to Breakingnews.ie head sports reporter Shaun Cronin and the assembled media about the Croke Park atmosphere and the challenge of getting the Irish team to gel quickly.
