Dan Carter has successfully undergone surgery on an Achilles tendon injury that brought his sabbatical at Perpignan to a premature end.

The New Zealand fly-half was last weekend ruled out for six months after rupturing his left Achilles during a Top 14 match against Stade Francais.

He was operated on in Lyon yesterday by doctor David Dejour, who confirmed the length of the Kiwi’s absence from the pitch.

“The surgery went very well and lasted half an hour,” Dejour said.

“Daniel Carter could walk again immediately but can only really put his foot on the ground in four to six weeks before undergoing a specific program of rehabilitation which should allow him to practise sport again in six months.”

Carter is set to return to Perpignan today.
