Scotland scored their first try at home for 14 months to put themselves halfway towards a famous win over world champions South Africa at Murrayfield.

Hines powered over less than two minutes before half-time to give the home side hope of preserving their ranking and avoiding a nightmare World Cup draw.

Scotland’s other points were kicked by fly-half Phil Godman, though Dan Parks wasted two penalties. Ruan Pienaar also missed one for the Springboks.
