Leeds winger Anitele’a Tuilagi has been ruled out of Samoa’s World Cup campaign after suffering a wrist injury in training.

Tuilagi, 21, was taken to hospital on Tuesday and head coach Michael Jones confirmed today he will have to be replaced in the squad.

“Anitele’a will be going home,” said Jones.

“We have to get a replacement, he might be out for three or four weeks. We’ve got someone in mind but we have to verify their health and fitness.

“He’s a great young talent, we’re very sad. He’s the third player we have to replace.”

Samoa, who open their World Cup against South Africa on Sunday, have also lost prop Donald Kerslake (broken ribs) and lock Filipo Levi (fractured eye socket).
