South African flanker Pierre Spies will have to wait until Tuesday to find out if he can go to the World Cup.

Spies was last month diagnosed with having clots on his lungs but a second specialist later found that he had pneumonia.

The player has now seen a third specialist and the results of those tests are expected on Tuesday when Springbok coach Jake White must name his final squad.

“With regards to the management of Pierre Spies, we will need to wait until the third specialist has reviewed all the diagnostic tools and data,” said South Africa team Doctor Yusuf Hassan

“When we have the results from this analysis we will be able to take a final decision. We hope to have clarity on the matter by Tuesday.

“Whatever decision we take it will be in the best interest of the athlete and the team.”
