The Welsh Rugby Union have confirmed wing Chris Czekaj’s broken leg could rule him out of action for “up to a year”.

Czekaj, 21, was stretchered off in agony after twisting badly as he tried to offload in a tackle by Australia hooker Stephen Moore in the 22nd minute of Wales’ 31-0 Test defeat to the Wallabies at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

The Cardiff Blues player underwent surgery on the right leg yesterday and now looks set to miss the World Cup and 2008 RBS 6 Nations Championship.

Gareth Jenkins’ flew home yesterday but Czekaj will be unable to fly home for at least 14 days as he recovers from the operation.
