England book final spot

England Women will play New Zealand in the World Cup final on Sunday after knocking out host nation Canada.

England’s 20-14 victory in Edmonton – secured by tries from Charlotte Barras (2) and Kim Shaylor – ensured a repeat of the 2002 final, when New Zealand triumphed 19-9.

Coach Geoff Richards said: “We now have four days to go before the final, and we are going to concentrate on rest and recovery.

“We are where we want to be, and now it is all about what happens on finals day.

“We have worked really hard for this, and now we have the opportunity to have another stab at winning the World Cup.”
