Exiles sign Argentinian star

London Irish have signed Argentina centre Gonzalo Tiesi.

The 20-year-old joins from San Isidro, a club just north of Buenos Aires, on the recommendation of Les Cusworth, the former England fly-half and Argentina assistant coach.

Tiesi, who as won five caps for the Pumas, joins compatriot Juan Leguizamon at the Madejski Stadium.

Exiles director of rugby Brian Smith said: “Les Cusworth rates him as one of the most exciting backs in Argentina.

“Gonzalo’s friend and fellow countryman, Juan Leguizamon, has proved to be a good signing for us and we are hopeful that he will have a similar impact.”

Tiesi, who has also played Sevens for Argentina, said: “I want to experience what it is like to play in one of the top professional leagues in world rugby.”
