Bective win Kieran Burke Memorial Plaque

Bective Under 7s beat Old Belvedere Under 7s in the final of the Kieran Burke Memorial Plaque in Kilternan today.

In what was to become a tight final, Bective, coached by Johnny Vaughan and Esmonde Keane, won by a single try, with captain Michael Corcoran getting the vital score.

37 teams involving 444 players took part in the tournament.

DLSP President Conor McCormick paid tribute to all the players and coaches who were involved and congratulated the two finalists. Kieran’s parents Karl and Kate presented the Winners and Runners up Medals and the Plaque to the victorious Bective team.

Given the huge number of teams involved, up almost 50% on last year’s competition, the “younger” players were entered in an Under 6’s tournament that saw Clontarf beat home side DLSP in the final, three tries to one.

The tournament was first held in January 2005 in memory of DLSP youth player and Leinster mascot Kieran Burke, who died in January 2004, aged four.

All proceeds collected went to the Children’s Cancer Fund of Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin.
