O'Sullivan: Young players picked on merit

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan today insisted the injection of youth into his squad has been based on merit not age as Shane Byrne became the latest Test veteran to face the axe.

Byrne, who won two Lions caps against New Zealand last summer, was omitted from Ireland’s 22-man party for the RBS 6 Nations opener against Italy on February 4.
