Ireland bid to make amends for NZ defeat

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan is giving most of the side hammered 45-7 by New Zealand a second chance as he keeps changes for today’s clash with Australia to a minimum.

Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan is giving most of the side hammered 45-7 by New Zealand a second chance as he keeps changes for today’s clash with Australia to a minimum.

Exciting Ulster rookie Andrew Trimble is the only new face, making his debut at outside centre with Anthony Horgan dropping out of the squad altogether, while flanker Simon Easterby has recovered from his perforated lip to lead the side for the second time.

Australia coach Eddie Jones reacted to his side’s 26-16 loss to England at Twickenham by axing Al Baxter in favour of debutant tighthead David Fitter and replacing injured Matt Dunning with Greg Holmes, who wins his first Test start.

Jones’ position and that of his skipper George Gregan are under immense pressure with Australia entering the match on the back of seven straight defeats, just one loss away from the worst run in their history.

The North Terrace, damaged by a fire eight days ago, remains closed with engineers unable to complete repair work until after the November internationals conclude against Romania next weekend.
