Rugby stars line out for charity golf drive
Stars of the rugby world will be taking to the fairways of Galway Golf Club next month for a special charity Classic.
The "Legend of Rugby" Classic on August 26 includes renowned names like Ciaran Fitzgerald, Michael Kiernan, Donal Lenihan, Noel Mannion, Dick Spring, Mick Galwey, Gareth Edwards, Bob Norster and Gareth Davies.
The event is being organised by Connacht Rugby and Knock International Airport and takes place in Galway Golf Club in Salthill.
More than 40 former rugby internationals and Lions are taking part.
The nominated charity for the event is the West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation, CROÍ. CROÍ will dedicate funds raised on the day to assist their work in the area of “Sudden Cardiac Death”.
CROÍ’s Chief Executive, Neil Johnson, says that his priority in this area is to promote the widespread distribution of defibrillators and to train members of the general public in their use.
CROÍ have already assisted Knock International Airport in becoming one of the first regional airports to have defibrillators and they are committed to supporting Connacht Rugby in the installation of a defibrillator in their home grounds also.
Further information on the event is available from the Connacht Rugby website at www.connachtrugby.ie .
