Lions to train publicly in NZ

The Lions will break new ground on their New Zealand tour this summer by staging two public training sessions.

Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium will host the first session on May 31 as the Lions prepare for their opening game against Bay of Plenty in Rotorua four days later. A second event is planned for Christchurch.

The All Blacks stage regular public work-outs, often attracting four-figure crowds, but the Lions have never previously embarked on such a venture.

“New Zealand has a fantastic rugby heritage, and both players and coaches are really looking forward to making sure that New Zealanders enjoy these public training sessions,” said Lions head coach Clive Woodward.

Entry will be free, with a commentary link to key players and coaches available during the session.
