Ballymena maintained their late charge for a play-off spot next month, as they ran in five tries against an at-odds Galwegians at Eaton Park.

Ulster utility back Scott Young bagged a try hat-trick as provincial colleagues James Topping and Adam Larkin also returned for Steph Nel's improving side.

Ballymena - who lie seven points off fourth-placed Clontarf with a visit to Dungannon up next - stole into an 18-13 half-time lead, thanks to tries from Young and Henry Head.

'Wegians did enjoy a good start with Stuart Meagher touching down and Connacht's David Slemen converting and tagging on a penalty.

However their hopes of a losing bonus point were quickly crushed on the restart as the tireless Young grabbed two more tries and Jason Taggart also got on the scoresheet.
