Syd Millar, the Chairman of the International Rugby Board, has backed Japan’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2011.

The land of the Rising Sun will face stiff competition from South Africa and New Zealand.

Nevertheless, Millar was impressed with the facilities already in place from the Soccer World Cup in 2002, noting in particular Yokohama Stadium the prospective venue for the Final.

“I think it's (Yokohama Stadium) a very, very excellent stadium and it would be certainly worthy of the World Cup final,” said Millar.

"We are building a new stadium in Dublin. If we can shift this stadium to Dublin, I'll be happy. But Japan's stadia are both good enough and big enough certainly".
