Cork Con undone by lowly Galwegians
Cork Constitution 6 Galwegians 10
Lowly Galwegians emerged from Temple Hill today with a much needed AIB League Division One victory over Cork Constitution.
Both full-back James Littleton and number 10 Tom Allen scored first half tries as 'Wegians picked up not only their first win of the season, but their first ever AIL win over Con.
Con scrum-half Pat McCarthy opened the scoring on 22 minutes with a right-sided penalty before 'Wegians moved the ball with superb hands for Littleton to touch down five minutes later.
The try went unconverted, but despite a second McCarthy penalty, 'Wegians managed to end the first half 10-6 in front.
Con left wing Cronan Healy saw yellow five minutes before the break as he held Michael Roche in the tackle as the 'Wegians scrum-half attempted to take a quick tap.
A crucial lineout was then won by John Casserly, and former NEC Harlequins Academy star Allen struck for a brilliant individual try from 25 metres out.
Bernie Kelly's visiting side endured a tough second half as Connacht tighthead prop Peter Bracken was sin-binned for kicking the ball away in the final quarter, but they hung on for an historic four points.
Scorers:
Con: Pens: Pat McCarthy 2
Galwegians: Tries: James Littleton, Tom Allen
HT: Cork Con 6 Galwegians 10
