Ireland’s hopes of completing their autumn international series with a 100% record looked bleak at Lansdowne Road this evening as Argentina claimed a commanding interval lead.

The Pumas raced out of the starting blocks with fly-half Felipe Contepomi booting eight points and centre Federico Martin Aramburu adding a fifth-minute try after good work from Manuel Contepomi.

Two penalties from Ronan O’Gara hauled Ireland back into the match but they were unable to stamp their authority on the match and Contepomi added to their worries with a penalty on the stroke of half-time.
