Former Great Britain forward Barrie McDermott will play for Ireland in their European Nations Cup group decider against Scotland in Navan.

The veteran Leeds prop missed Ireland’s opening match against Wales, because he was helping the Rhinos to victory in the Super League Grand Final.

The Irish have lost second rower Mick Cassidy and Salford winger Anthony Stewart through injury for Friday’s match but have called up Lee Doran (Oldham), John Gallagher (Leeds) and Ged Corcoran (Halifax) in addition to McDermott – and coach Daryl Powell will select from a 20-man squad.
