Ulster will employ former Wales and Widnes rugby league supremo Neil Kelly, named Coach of the Year in 2002, as an assistant coach primarily responsible for defensive skills.

Ulster coach Mark McCall admitted: “We have been on the look-out for someone of this quality and with Neil’s expertise since the start of the season and are delighted to have someone of his pedigree join us at Ulster Rugby.”

Before Kelly made his mark at Widnes, he spent five years at National League club Dewsbury Rams. He will start his season-long contract later this week.
