Clontarf topple Ballymena at Eaton Park
Ballymena 20 Clontarf 21
Clontarf grabbed a famous win at fortress Eaton Park as 2003 champions Ballymena fell to an injury time try from Aidan Kearney.
The former Leinster lock was driven over in the final seconds as Phil Werahiko's side regained a lead that they had held at the break (13-10).
Leinster fly-half David McAllister pinged over a third minute penalty to set the Dubliners on their way, before winger Daragh McElligott slid in at the left corner on eight minutes.
Clontarf's 8-0 lead was eaten into as Ballymena's Adam Larkin notched a 15th minute penalty. Then Ulster starlet Andrew Trimble, recently called into the Barbarians squad, set up Andy Munson for a try.
Clontarf winger Mark Hewitt made it a three-point game at the break with a well-taken stoppage time try.
McAllister and Larkin traded penalties before the Clontarf number 10 was sin-binned. Scott Young then sent Michael McComish over for Ballymena, and with Larkin converting, they held a 20-16 advantage.
But in a repeat of the 2003 final, Kearney had the final say.
