University takes win in Leinster Cup
Tony Smeeth’s Dublin University edged out Clontarf 16-14 in a close fought encounter in Section C of the Leinster Senior Cup with a last gasp Simon Mitchell touchline conversion of Martin Garvey’s try at Castle Avenue yesterday.
Greystones' versatile strike runner Robert Connolly struck for a brace of touchdowns in their 24-0 whitewash of Bective Rangers in Section A and Blackrock College matched their effort in knocking over Old Belvedere 28-3 at Stradbrook.
Prop Aidan McSweeney barrelled over for two of their four tries.
In Section B, Graeme Ingles second-half try was the difference in St Mary’s College’s 11-6 away win at County Carlow and Wanderers took a 57-10 hiding from DLSP with Conor Cadogan, Aaron Davies and Colm Power grabbing a pair of tries each.
Naas pushed UCD all the way in a 33-27 loss in Section D at Forenaughts. The Kildare side even managed four tries, but it was enough against College, whose out-half Eoghan Hickey crossed once and kicked well.
Terenure College Sean King shot over five times in their facile 60-13 demolition of Monkstown and Lansdowne’s Ian Hopkins wasn’t too far behind in the individual stakes with a hat-trick in the 46-16 cakewalk at Skerries.
