The IRFU has decided that, from the season 2005-2006, the AIB League will be divided into Three Divisions of 16 clubs in each.

Within each Division, there will be two sections of eight with the clubs playing each other on a home-and-away basis.

The Union has taken into consideration the opinions, voiced in the All Ireland League Working Party, of the four provincial branches and the clubs.

There is also some indication that there will be an All Ireland Cup launched for the same season.

The exact format and scheduling of the two competitions will be announced at a later date.
