New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu has targeted a place in the 2007 World Cup squad despite awaiting a kidney transplant.

The Kiwi has been on a dialysis since he was diagnosed with the chronic kidney problem over a year ago.

But Lomu is refusing to rule out his chances of making a final appearance on the biggest stage of all in the world game.

He said: “I am an optimist. Watch this space. I’m a person who rises to the challenge. I have had to go through plenty of challenges before in my life.”
