Mick Doyle killed in car crash

Former Irish international rugby coach Mick Doyle was killed in a road accident today.

He was in a car which was in collision with a lorry on the main Omagh to Dungannon Road, County Tyrone.

Doyle, 63, coached Ireland to the Triple Crown and the Five Nations Championship triumph in 1985.

The accident happened on a stretch of road at Quinn’s Corner near Dungannon.

Between 1965 and 1968 Doyle won 20 consecutive caps as a flanker. He made his international debut against France at Lansdowne Road.

He toured Australia with Ireland in 1967 and South Africa with the British Lions the next year.

Doyle also coached Leinster to Interprovincial Championship success five times between 1979 and 1983.
